Domain FAQ
- Multiple domains: do I need to buy every version of my domain name? The .com, .net, and .org? At this early stage, I wouldn’t bother. Just get your main domain and you can always buy more later.
- Privacy: do I need to buy the privacy protection they’re offering? This is one add-on that I sometimes recommend. Your name and some information will be public when you purchase a domain name (if you know where to look–believe me, it’s not hard to find). So if you don’t like the idea of that, you can get the privacy package.
- Multi-year purchase: should I buy for more than one year? I’ve read that if you purchase your domain for longer than a year, you look less like a spammer. Who knows really if it helps. But one thing it does help is that you don’t have keep remembering to renew each year. On that note, make sure you have the domains and hosting set to auto-renew with automatic payments.
Hosting FAQ
- UNIX or Windows hosting? You want UNIX hosting. This is a website, not your computer, so WordPress websites run best on UNIX.
- Economy or Deluxe? economy gives you one website, deluxe gives you an unlimited number of websites. You can always upgrade.
- Email: do I get email with the packages? Yes, but if you want IMAP email that syncs (more easily) with your multiple devices and phones, you’ll want what they call their Business Email. Again, you can also do this later.
- Choice: What about Blue Host and Host Gator and WP Engine? Those are all fine. One thing I like about this GoDaddy reseller account is that the domain and hosting and email is in one place.
