Can’t Save/Publish Long Posts in WordPress

A few clients are running into trouble when trying to post/publish or even save very long posts (think: a few pages). I think I just found the answer and I posted it on the WordPress forums, but here’s the code that needs to go into the .htaccess file:

[php] SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off[/php]

This also fixes the trouble I was having with WP E-Commerce where I couldn’t change the status of the purchase (to e.g. Accepted Payment) and thus the buyer wasn’t getting a confirmation email that his purchase was accepted.

Actually (especially with the new WP versions) it is also a good idea to check if there is a php memory limit.

From my own experience the memory WP has, the better. But if you want more or less stable work, in .htaccess put the following line:

php_value memory_limit 32M

and set in to no less than 32M. The more, the better. 64M should be great, but check with you host if you can put it as high as this.

I put that line in my .htaccess file, but it then gave me a 500 error. I’m no .htaccess pro, do I need some sort of code around that line? Thanks.

Hi Bradley, maybe you copied full text from the box along with the lines numbers? That maybe the case, you have to remove them.

Anyway thank you for this post it helped me to publish my long post, however it is interesting that earlier i was able to publish all kinds of posts long and short.

I agree, I don’t know why things seem to just magically change. I guess hosts do upgrades and things no longer work as well.

As far as the line numbers, they’re not *really* there/here, it’s just the WordPress plugin I’m using to show code.

HI,I have added the .htaccess file into the wpadmin directry, but i still cannot post/save a post which is more than 10 lines. Any suggestion?? Thank you!

Frank: What version of WordPress are you using? When I’ve run into the can’t post issue, my first bet is just to upgrade. If it still doesn’t work, I move onto Plan B … and C and D … ;-)

Actually with the new versions of WP is a good idea to check if there is a php memory limit. From my own experience the memory WP has, the better. But at the same time depending on more or less stable work in .ht access put the following line: php_value memory_limit 32M. And adjust to not less than 32M. The higher, the better. 64M should be great.

I don’t seem to be able to post comments on other wordpress blogs using my wordpress I.D. – the message I get even when logged in to wordpress, and trying to post to another wordpress blog is; “you do not own that address” ?

does this mean in order to post to another wordpress blog using my wordpress address I am required to pay wordpress?
