Update September 2008: With WordPress 2.6 +, image captions are built into the core image/media manager so no more need for plugins! Also, the video directly below is using WP 2.6.1 and the new media manager, its upload, editing, alignment, and caption function — all built into the core now.
Previously, I used Image Manager and a caption plugin. Screencast WordPress tutorial on that is over here.

When writing a blog I can effectively acquire the image from my file, it uploads to the blog and at this point I do not understand the next step.
When I click on ‘upload’ I never have success. What am I missing to insert pics into my blog?
Also, once an error message indicated that the image file was too large. What is the max gif size?
Thanks for helping,
Lowell
Firstly, when you upload an image from your computer it uploads to the media library. Then when you go to the spot to insert the image you insert it from the media lirary- choose the image and then it is inserted. Dont forget to save.
Secondly, if you always open your pictures through your word Microsoft office picture manager and resize under the large or small WEB option before you upload there will be no problem. Sorry can’t remember size offhand.
nice job
very good!
